Well, it's the middle of November today and that means it's the halfway point in NaNoWriMo. My NaNo has been up and down so far this year. After a distinctly unspectacular week 1, I moved into week 2 in a determined and optimistic frame of mind. With three days clear of work, I was aiming for 2,000 words per day to drag my count up. Wednesday and Thursday went well. I didn't make it to 2,000, but wasn't far below; then yesterday was abysmal.
Keep writing, they say. Don't look back. Don't edit. Just keep writing.
Well, yes, okay, I've cracked the one about not going back to edit. And normally I can do the "keep writing" one as well. But not yesterday. It was one of those seriously bad days. I clawed my way to a measly 700-and-something and heaped curses on mymiserable head for wasting a day.
But today has been a good day. I was working this morning, but I settled down to write after lunch and churned out 2475 words. Yay! (Thinks: If I can do that in an afternoon, how many could I do in a day?)
So here's how things stand at the halfway mark:
I've written 17,329 words...
...which leaves me a trifling 8,000 below where I should be at this point!
At this rate, I'm due to complete my 50,000 words on December 14th. At least that's still in 2014.
Not as brilliant as it could be? Undoubtedly. But how about this - my daily average is 1155 words. Multiply that by 30 and you get 34,650 and that, my friends, is 2,000 more words than my previous best.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Yay!

You asked about my progress. I've managed to write every day except for this weekend when we had a family celebration and that's good for me. Tonight I updated my word count to 23,967 so I am under the 25,000 half way mark but hope to catch up this week.
What is your NaNo name and perhaps I could add you as my buddy if you'd like me to? Mine is JanBay1.
